Dear Chesterfield Resident,
Until now, I have not publicly endorsed either candidate for Chesterfield Mayor. However, I am now announcing my support for Derek Grier, whom I believe is best qualified to serve in this role. Derek, a young family man, brings significant experience, having served four years on the Chesterfield City Council and six years as a State Representative. Beyond his public service, Derek has proven himself as a small business leader and community advocate, fostering economic growth and strengthening local ties through his leadership. He has consistently demonstrated a keen interest and earnest desire to serve the public. I see no conflicts of interest or hidden agendas in his candidacy.
This has become a highly contested race, with council members and long-term residents—all of whom, like me, want nothing but the best for Chesterfield’s future—voicing strong opinions. It’s worth noting that the mayor only votes in the case of a tie, and even a mayoral veto can be overridden. As a long-term public servant, I believe I am uniquely positioned to understand our city’s history, including past costly mistakes and ongoing, unnecessary legal disputes that remain unresolved, issues on which I had no influence.
I’ve often told voters there’s a significant gap between what happens at City Hall and what even the most informed resident knows. I have always advocated for maximum transparency, as required by state statute. Some of you may have received information about disturbing issues, and I’ll say this: where there’s smoke, there’s fire.
The unfortunate truth is that the other candidate has influenced decisions leading to costly lawsuits, a complete waste of taxpayer dollars with no results to show for it, and a current plan to pay an inflated price for real estate that does not align with our core mission.
As I prepare to step down as mayor, I wholeheartedly believe Derek Grier is the leader Chesterfield needs to move forward with integrity, competence, and a focus on our community’s best interests. I urge you to join me in supporting him by casting your vote for Derek Grier on Tuesday, April 8th. Together, we can ensure a brighter future for our city.
Sincerely,
Bob Nation
Mayor (soon to be former)
